In 2019, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine will purchase 227 buses, 153 trolleybuses, 56 trams and 35 underground carriages for 8 cities of Ukraine using the EIB and EBRD loans. Also, the funicular in Kyiv will be reconstructed and modern systems of travel fare will be installed.
A loan for the procurement will be provided by the European Investment Bank
Next year, the government plans to acquire the public transport for eight Ukrainian cities; procurements will be made on the account of loans provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) under state guarantees. As informed by the CTS (Centre of Transport Strategies) with reference to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine (MIU), 227 buses, 153 trolley buses, 56 trams, 35 metro cars will be purchased. In addition, the funicular will be reconstructed in Kyiv.
“The Ministry of Infrastructure jointly with the Ministry of Finance and the local governments (11 cities) are implementing the EIB project, the main goal of which is to implement the subprojects in Ukrainian cities aimed at the development of environmentally friendly and socially significant transport, including renewing the fleet of buses, trolley buses, trams, metro cars, construction and reconstruction of tram and trolleybus lines, funicular, replacement of railway substations, introduction of modern fare collection systems and information systems on the account of EIB and EBRD credit funds” – is reported on the MIU website.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, 167 trolleybuses have been procured in 2018 in the frameworks of the project, including 47 vehicles for Odesa, 40 vehicles for Kremenchuk, 23 trolley buses have been supplied for Dnepr, 10 for Rivne, 8 for Kryvyi Rih.
The ministry reports that, taking into account these procurements, Odesa has renewed the fleet of trolleybuses by 28%, Kremenchuk – by 70%, Dnipro – by 17%, Rivne and Kryvyi Rih – by 10%.
In 2019, it is planned to purchase 61 trolley buses for Kharkiv, 22 for Sumy, 40 for Chernihiv, 30 for Lutsk. Buses will be purchased for Lviv, Kyiv and Ternopil – 100, 112 and 15 vehicles respectively. 10 trams will also be bought for Lviv. 29 trams under the EIB project will be purchased for Odesa and 17 for Kyiv. Kharkiv underground should get 35 new subway train cars.
