The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine provided 50 specialized oxygen concentrators to 18 medical institutions in the Donetsk Oblast, the press service of Donetsk Oblast State Administration reported.
“Today, on 20 August, four specialized oxygen concentrators were officially handed over to the City Hospital No 3 of Kramatorsk City Council. Soon, another 46 concentrators will be delivered to medical institutions in the Donetsk Oblast,” the press release says.
Oxygen concentrators (with the delivery rate of 5 liters per minute) are intended for efficacious oxygen therapy. Special electrical devices separate oxygen from the ambient air and supply high-concentration (over 90%) oxygen necessary to support patients with respiratory disorders that accompany, in particular, the coronavirus disease.
Olena Rudych, Coordinator of the Local Self-Government and Public Administration Decentralization Reform component of the UN Program on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace, said that the infection rate in Ukraine continues to grow at an alarming pace.
“In the conditions of pandemic, direct support to medics and provision of healthcare institutions with vital equipment presently remain some of the top priorities of our program activity,” Olena Rudych said.
The equipment is procured under the UN Program on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace with financial support from the European Union.
